Heath Ledger Tribute

10 Things I Hate About You was the name of the film. Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles starred in this teen romantic comedy. Although not a great movie Ledger showed promise of future stardom. Two years afterwards A Knight’s Tale arrived in theatres. An offbeat movie set in Medieval England, but with a soundtrack interspersed with 1970s rock anthems. 2005 was a busy year with the release of Casanova, Brokeback Mountain, The Brothers Grimm, and Lords of Dogtown. Casanova, about the 18th century Venetian womanizer, was not a big box office success but was playful and well-acted. The Brothers Grimm was neither good nor memorable despite the acting talents of Ledger and Matt Damon. Ang Lee’s wonderfully directed Brokeback Mountain earned Heath Ledger an Oscar nomination for Actor In A Leading Role. Lords of Dogtown was about the Z-Boys and early days of the professional skateboarding revolution. Skateboarding fans enjoyed the movie, but not many theater seats were filled. Ledger’s role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, arriving in theaters this summer, will be his last on-screen appearance.

The acting world has lost a great talent and, most importantly, a little girl has lost her daddy.
